Math and Science Courses for Older Children

We are happy to offer the following math and science courses in English for older elementary and middle school children:
Prealgebra
This course will take the students through the basics of mathematics and pre-algebra topics. It will prepare them for further studying of higher level mathematical subjects such as Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus and Statistics. It will also teach them some important tools that they will use in their daily life. The course includes review of arithmetic skills, operating with whole numbers, fractions and decimals, solving equations and proportions, solving percent and other word problems, operations with polynomials and exponents.
Beginning Algebra
This course is designed to introduce students to basic algebraic concepts. It will serve as a foundation for further studying of higher level of mathematical subjects such as Intermediate Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus and Statistics. Topics studied include linear and quadratic equations, operations with polynomials, products and factoring, radicals and algebraic fractions.
Instructor: Luda Balanovich, MA in Applied Mathematics and BA in Economics, taught and tutored various Math courses at the University of New Hampshire (Manchester, NH), New England College and Hesser College.
Introduction to Electricity
The course is intended for early achievers seriously considering engineering career in the distant future as well as playground philosophers striving to understand the world around.
Course contents:
- features of electrical power that make it irreplaceable in our life, ever increasing role of electricity in the household and workplace;
- electrical currents in the nature and living things; - definition of electrical current;
- sources of electrical power and loads;
- elementary electrical circuit, safety rules;
- schematic;
- resistivity: conductors, insulators, semiconductors; series and parallel connections;
- Ohm’s Law;
- elements of control.Instructor : Igor Avkshtol, PhD, Professional Engineer, taught Power Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the Riga Technical University, has numerous technical publications and patents.
